Amy achieves her stage school dream

From the archive, first published Thursday 4th May 2006.

IT is third time lucky for a Kidderminster-born actress, who has been offered a place at a prestigious theatre school.

Amy Saunders auditioned three years in a row for the chance to study for a performing arts degree at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and will now start her course in September.

The 20-year-old, who was a member of Kidderminster Operatic and Dramatic Youth Society, attended an eight-hour audition, alongside 2,000 other hopefuls and was one of only 36 students picked.

She said she was "very excited" to have been given a place, adding: "I felt very happy and relieved because I auditioned last year as well as the year before and I didn't get in. I got into a different school last year but I had set my heart on Mountview so I tried again."

The student, who lived in Broadwaters Drive and made a documentary about the downgrading of Kidderminster Hospital for Channel Four, moved to London when she was 16.

Amy, who studied for a BTEC National Diploma in performing arts at the established Brit School, said she was looking forward to workshops with "some of the best singing teachers in the country".

After graduating, she hopes to appear in the West End.

She added: "My biggest ambition is to play Elethba in the musical Wicked."
