HOTLY tipped musical acts from across the Midlands will be showcased by Kidderminster's MAS Records on Sunday.

The SubCurrents event, organised by the Kidderminster College-based independent label, will be held at the Stourbridge Rock Café 2000.

There will be performances by Wyre Forest bands, China Red, Break for the Border, The Ryde, Base Detail and Attica State.

Stoke-on-Trent groups, Blast Stereos Loud, Kamikaze Pilots, Black Apples, The Llight and The Cakes will also play live sets.

MAS - Mighty Atom Smasher - Records project manager, Ian Grant. said the event, which will be filmed and recorded, would help the label to put together videos and promotional packs.

China Red is made up of singer/ songwriter, Hana Wilmot, guitarist, Dave Sellar, bassist, Matt Warburton and drummer, Matt Sellar.

Kevyn Gammond, creative director for the label, which has music legend, Robert Plant, as its patron, said: "We do like discovering and working with the kind of oddball rock acts that take on board other dimensions with their music, the eclectic and the new.

"China Red are one such band. They are capable of reworking some great songs and have recently revised one of the biggest crossover hits from the 1950s, The Orioles' It's Too Soon To Know.

Hana said: "A lot of emotion comes over live and you get the feeling that this song can still go anywhere at any time.

"We want the audience to leave the Rock Café singing this song in the street. We want to be part of that world with our music."

The event, which begins at 4pm, runs until late and admission is payable on the door.
