Let us have your unwanted bags

From the archive, first published Monday 13th Mar 2006.

HANDBAG hoarders are being urged to spring clean their collection and turn their unwanted accessories into lifesaving research and equipment for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

BHF shops in Worcestershire will be displaying posters featuring a red handbag and the strapline `To you, an unwanted handbag - To us, a heart monitor', urgently appealing to locals to donate unwanted goods and join the charity in its fight against heart and circulatory disease.

But handbags aren't the only items that the BHF needs - it is also appealing for clean clothes, shoes, accessories, books, CDs, DVDs, videos, toys and bric-a-brac. Terry Rolfe, British Heart Foundation regional manager, said: "There are 2.2 million households in the West Midlands. If every household donated just one carrier bag of good quality items this March, it would help the BHF to continue to fund lifesaving research and equipment."

To locate your local BHF shop, call 0870 120 4141 or visit bhf.org.uk/shops.
