THE Catshill Church Companions, an organisation which comprised the youth of the church, undertook the task of entertaining the old age pensioners of Catshill. They carried it through with just one solitary hitch. Invitations had been sent out through Catshill Post Office, and although 27 women took up the opportunity of an afternoon out, only one man turned up. The group gave a performance of The Bathroom Door, and pass the parcel.   more...

"THE History and Development of Water Power in the Midlands" was the subject of our meeting given by Tim Booth, who has been researching mills in the area for the past 35 years and is currently chairman of the Midland Wind and Water Mills Group. LADIES' GUILD: Members were transported to the South West of Ireland at the start of their New Year's meeting, when the speaker, Ray Sturdy, showed slides taken when he and a group of Mencap supporters undertook a cycle tour of that area to raise money for Mencap. He reminded his audience that Brian Rix was one of the founders of Mencap. Ray would be donating his fee for the talk to that charity.   more...

North Cotswold

BRIDGE CLUB: The North Cotswolds Bridge Club is celebrating its 20th anniversary with three days of special events in Moreton on January 27, 28 and 29. Non-members from the district are very welcome to join the fun in the Redesdale Hall, either for rubber bridge pairs on the Friday, Duplicate pairs on the Saturday, or teams-of-four on the Sunday. Each day runs from 10.30am to 4pm, and tickets, at just £7.50 include refreshments, a lunch, and prizes. The emphasis is, as always, on the social aspect of the game, with less experienced players being particularly encouraged. A grand draw in aid of the Bourton-on-the-Hill Old School, with 20 or more prizes will be drawn on the Sunday. YOUTH CLUBS: The youth clubs all start again this week, with full programmes taking them through the Easter period and into the summer. Emma Lucas, the youth leader, has been meeting her teams of volunteer helpers regularly and putting together a number of projects, one of which took place on New Year's Eve, when fireworks and bonfire party was held at the home of Dr and Mrs Hugh Nunn.
