GARDENING CLUB: The February meeting was a talk by Marie Paginton entitled Chile, plants and places. Marie gave an account of the month she spent travelling the length of the country,observing the many wonderful sights and capturing on film the many plants in their natural habitat. The monthly competition, The First Spring Flowers in a Vase, was won by Julia Browning with Derrick Cook second and Jean Dyke third. The meeting next month is the annual spring show which will be on Wednesday, March 23 at the Memorial Hall. New members welcome. WICK WALKERS: The weather was kind to the 11 walkers led by Steve Bowyer and Debbie Varley who met near Odda's Chapel on Sunday. After a brief inspection of this ancient chapel, they enjoyed bright skies, a bracing wind and excellent views of the Malvern Hills, as they followed the path along the banks of the Severn, dodging a few muddy patches, and resisting the temptation of the warm fire in the Coal House Inn. From the top of the steep path up to Apperley there were more far-reaching views to the snow-dusted hills of the Cotswolds.   more...
