PARISH COUNCIL: The monthly meeting of the parish council took place last Wednesday with district and county councillor Clive Holt present. Among the items of business was further news about the proposed building in Leys Road; a letter from Rooftop Housing stated that they would now be resubmitting their application for development of the site in the light of the risk assessment recently completed by Severn Trent Water Authority. A letter from Mrs Liz Nunn, supporting the plan, made reference to the doubt which has been expressed about the need for affordable housing in Harvington and went on to inform the meeting that housing at Newing Court was now taken by previous residents of Harvington, including a number of young people. Discussion prompted an instruction to the parish clerk to write to Rooftop requesting the names of the people in Harvington who, according to their claim, need affordable housing and to Mrs Nunn, also requesting pertinent information and confirming that the contents of her letter will be borne in mind when the application is resubmitted. more...
DEBATING SOCIETY: The February meeting of the society will be held in the St James's church rooms at 8pm on February 26, when the motion will be this house believes that the national obsession with gardening keeps the British sane. The motion will be proposed by Dr Michael Amphlett, a scientist who runs his own software company; he will be seconded by Mrs Gillian Gander, who was a civil servant in Canada and now lives, and gardens, in Chipping Campden.
