From the archive, first published Thursday 6th Oct 2005.

ARTS & Business, the national charity dedicated to encouraging new and sustainable relationships between the two industries, has appointed Worcester resident Gavin Buckley as director of its West Midlands branch.

Mr Buckley will manage a team of seven office-based staff and oversee the work of a number of freelance artists working on creative projects throughout the region.

During the next 12 months he and the team will be working in partnership with Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Birmingham City Council to deliver The Year of Arts in Business.

Mr Buckley has lived in Worcester since 1988. He is a board member and vice-chairman of C&T, Worcester's cutting edge theatre-in-education company. He is also a member of the executive committee that produced this year's successful Worcester Three Choirs Festival in and around Worcester. In the past four years, Gavin has been working as director of regional fund-raising for The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

Mr Buckley was also the series producer of last year's Spirit of Christmas Cathedral Concert Series that started in Worcester and raised money for the charity.

He said: "I am delighted to be joining Arts & Business in the West Midlands.

"We have great programmes, committed people and a fantastic supporter base. Our activities in the region are well established and many businesses are already convinced that working with the arts is not only a good thing to do, but is also the smart thing to do.

"I am very much looking forward to working with my team to encourage and develop highly effective partnerships between business and arts."
