WITH reference to your article in last week's Journal (March 18) regarding Steve Guy and his trailer, I would suggest Mr Guy tell the council that he is of gipsy descent then I'm sure he will be allowed to leave his trailer where it is, they may even pay for it to be there, after all, there is it seems, a rule for us mere tax paying mortals and a separate rule for gypsies where planning is concerned. The hideous eyesore along that stretch of road is not Mr Guy's trailer.   more...

ARTS AND CRAFTS SOCIETY: The society held its annual meeting in the Townsend Hall. The meeting was well attended with about 90 per cent of members present. Chairman Penny Law spoke of the success of the previous year's programme both of speakers and visits and thanked Kaye Shilling and Jill Licence for their hard work in making arrangements for the various functions. She also thanked Millie Holmes, who was retiring from the committee after many years of arranging refreshments at the society's meetings. Jean Probert presented the accounts and drew the members' attention to the fact that expenditure for the year had exceeded income by £134. She proposed that the annual subscription should be raised to £15, which was agreed.   more...

PARISH COUNCIL: The council's monthly meeting was held in the village hall last Wednesday and had all councillors present with the exception of coun Joyce White. A welcome was given to coun Tom Bacon, back for the first time after his long illness. About 25 members of the public were present to take part in a discussion with two police officers who were expected to attend. The chairman began by saying that they had been unavoidably detained so he would start the meeting and interrupt it to hold the public forum when the officers arrived. Coun Clive Holt asked whether he could report on correspondence he had received which complained in strong terms about the nuisance being caused by two barking dogs in Rectory Close, and the failure of the owners to respond to individual, neighbourly complaints.
