Councillors' voting

REGARDING the monstrosity of a house that is being built in Wick. We vote our councillors to work for us, truthfully, fairly and consciously. It has to be in the minutes of the meeting, and if not, why did a council meeting, have no minutes? Please give us a satisfactory answer.   more...

Mop site should stay

I AM dismayed that people do not realise that the Evesham October Mop was given parliamentary rights in a law passed, sorry I forget the year, but it could be over a century ago, to stage the mop on Merstow Green, why the powers that be paid so much cash into making it as it I do not know, but law should remain as was passed. I do not visit the mop but I would not like to see this old custom done away with. The Crown Meadow is most unsuitable as the organisers have to pay a considerable amount, to leave the ground as when they take it, if it rains people stay away and no business can benefit from things like this.   more...

Defending remarks at loaded meeting

AS I am being attacked by left-wing letter writers, I hope you will permit me space to defend myself. I consider my `rent-a-mob' remark perfectly justified. To any fair minded observer at the meeting it was obvious that the Lib Dem and Labour parties had organised supporters to hijack the proceedings and disrupt the council's budget meeting. They booed and jeered every time a Conservative member attempted to speak and cheered and applauded Lib Dem and Labour speakers. They were led by a Labour county councillor.   more...

A pensioner's perspective

I ATTENDED the pensioner protest meeting last month at Pershore Civic Centre. While we were waiting outside the atmosphere was convivial, which can be seen by the photographs. It was a different story when we were eventually allowed inside. As most of the room was taken up with council members tables, there was very limited space left for any of us. The banners were not allowed in the room, so had to be left in the corridor. We were told several times by a councillor that because of health and safety rules, we should not be standing around but could go to a smaller committee room where seats were available and be called when necessary but everyone stayed put. On meeting the councillors hostile attitude towards the pensioners, I thought the scene was set for a confrontation, which according to the Journal took place afterwards. I could not stay until the matter was raised but I have to say that if pensioners are treated as second class citizens in the end you get the result that you created at the outset. I consider the rent-a-mob remark from Clive Holt inexcusable and unforgivable.   more...
