ON Sunday, January 19, there was Parish Communion at St Mary the Virgin Church in Upleadon. The celebrant was the rector, Rev Patricia Phillips assisted by Mrs Jessie Williams. Mr Bert Vye was at the church organ to accompany the seasonal hymns. The epistle was read by Mrs Christine Draper and the gospel by Mrs Pat Smith. The sidesman was Mr Gerald Draper. Both churchwardens were in attendance. Next Sunday, January 25, there will be no service at Upleadon Church.   more...

IT was a good way to start the first meeting of the New Year when Staunton, Hartpury & District Over-60s held a quiz, which caused a good bit of hilarity by some of the answers given (not the right ones of course). Subscriptions were paid and there are a few vacancies for anyone who would like to join. Judging by the New Year's programme there will be interesting speakers and fashions. Outings will include a visit to the new Bull Ring, Birmingham, and Worcester's Victorian Christmas market, gardens and garden centres, a trip to Weston and much, much more. Ring the leader, Nan Bevan, on 01452 840640, to join. The annual membership fee is £3. The next meeting will be on Monday, February 2, at 10.15am in the lounge at Johnstone Close. ON Tuesday, January 6, a very enjoyable New Year party was held in Pauntley Memorial Hall at Brand's Green. Drinks were provided, and the food element took the form of an American supper. It was a cold night but that was not a damper on the guests who attended. A variety of games were played which included a new slant on proverbs and a new variety of pass the parcel.
