A POPULAR contemporary dance company will present two new dances when it returns to Malvern this month.
The Richard Alston Dance Company is renowned for its outstanding choreography and has recently added the dances Overdrive and Grey Allegro to its autumn programme.
The show is inspired by composers such as Terry Riley, Domencio Scarlatti and Jean Phillipe Rameau and the dances reflect the diversity of each.
Overdrive is structured around Terry Riley's keyboard studies and as the rhythm becomes increasingly more urgent, the dancers have to work hard to keep up, resulting in wild, energetic movement.
Alston's long-time colleague Martin Lawrence has choreographed Grey Allegro and the dance is driven by the music of Scarlatti. Described as taut and elegant, Grey Allegro echoes Scarlatti's music with its sharp choreographic precision.
The programme also revives one of Alston's biggest hits, Brisk Singing. With music from the opera Les Boreades by Rameau, the company creates a dance that is uplifting for the whole audience.
The Richard Alston Dance Company will perform at the Forum, at Malvern Theatres, on November 20 and 21.
Tickets are £9 and £11, with a student price of £6.
