Major William Brace of Ledbury has been made an MBE for his efforts in the recent conflict in Iraq.
Throughout a stressful six weeks, Maj Brace was running a divisional prisoner-of-war camp.
He looked after the welfare of approximately 14,500 Iraqi prisoners of war and was also responsible for the 1,200 soldiers who helped care for them on a daily basis.
In a statement, the army praised Maj Brace's "integrity and honesty" and said he was tasked with ensuring that prisoners were kept in hygienic conditions, were fed and watered and were given proper clothes.
Maj Brace, 51, is currently based at Bovington Camp in Dorset. During the conflict he was headquarters squadron leader and logistics officer for the Queen's Dragoon Guards, serving with the 1 (UK) Armoured Division.
