THE inaugural concert of Malvern Concert Club, featuring the Brodsky Quartette (sic), was reported in the Malvern News a century ago. Held at the Imperial Hotel, it attracted "a large and fashionable gathering of many of the leading musical families of the county". The programme, including works by Volkmann, Mendelssohn and Beethoven, was "an immense treat and was greeted at the end with rapturous applause".
