While everyone agreed events should equal those associated with the late Queen's diamond jubilee, the cost as always was the overriding consideration. PARISH COUNCIL: Matters concerning the playing field were discussed, and the problem of the use of cycles was aired. The question of the provision of a cycle park with facilities for locking cycles was discussed, and a possible site was suggested. The new play area was reported to have been well used over the school Easter holidays. New turves had been laid in ideal conditions but the subsequent fine weather had meant too much drying out. The chairman, Mr Derrick Grainger, was thanked for the five hours watering he and his wife had done over the Easter weekend. Mr Grainger reported that he was waiting for further estimates for the fencing before the project could be completed.   more...

PARISH COUNCIL: Bypass: The Chairman read out the statement "Do you wish to close access to the village at the Moor Island to all traffic except emergency vehicles, buses and cyclists?" Councillors voted for this. After discussions of the statement, councillors disagreed with this and a second vote was taken. Five councillors were against, chairman in favour. Parish Councillors recommended: Access only to Village, 20mph limit, 7.5T restriction and lights on bridge. They would like to reserve the right to have additional traffic calming installed. A summary of the results would be used to make the final decision. The chairman asked about wording of signs from the roundabouts, presuming access only.
