WHY does Malvern Town Council wish to elbow the general public out of two more of the diminishing number of parking spaces in Belle Vue Terrace? (Malvern Gazette, April 4). Just in case deputy mayor Frances Victory has forgotten, Great Malvern already has miles of spaces where the disabled have free two hour parking all to themselves - they are called double yellow lines, where even the undisabled, unsubsidised punter is allowed to set down or pick up passengers.   more...

IN reply to your editorial and the letters from Coun Roger Hall-Jones and Rob Macrory (Your Letters, March 5), while I agree with a lot of what Coun Hall-Jones says, we had a debate and a public consultation in 1997. The result was that Hereford, which had been joined with Worcestershire, became a Unitary Authority but Worcestershire retained its district councils. At that time that was the wish of a majority of Worcestershire residents.   more...

Once again West Malvern's winter quiz season will wind up with a grand charity quiz with a £1,000 first prize to the winning team. It will be held at the Royal British Legion in Lower Road starting at 8pm next Friday, April 19. As well as the big prize, there will be many others (there were 70 prizes in the raffle at last year's equivalent event!) All the money raised will be divided equally between the Church Roof Fund, the Cricket Club, the Village Hall, the Royal British Legion, the Social Club and the Garden & Nature Club, so the event offers the chance to enjoy a good evening out while supporting a whole range of West Malvern voluntary organisations - a practical example of charity beginning at home. On the same day, local councillors met at short notice and have issued the following statement: "Bosbury & Coddington Parish Council held an emergency meeting on the land owned by the parish council adjacent to the garage area on Forge Bank on Thursday, April 4. They considered the further vandalism to the boundary fence following recent repairs, the repeated tipping of domestic and mechanical rubbish and the continuation of fouling by dogs in relation to the future of the site. This area of land will be discussed again at the annual parish meeting in Bosbury Village Hall on Thursday, May 2. The parish council is also concerned about dog fouling of pavements and verges in Bosbury. The Herefordshire Council dog warden has been asked to take action on this problem."   more...
