BOSBURY Correspondent: Mrs R Krinks Tel: 01531 640076

LAST weekend saw the final milk deliveries by Malcolm and Mary Clueit to their many customers in Bosbury. After nearly 30 years in the trade, with declining milk sales due to many more households choosing to purchase their milk from supermarkets, they find they have to hang up their bottles. Over the last few months they have tried unsuccessfully to find someone prepared to take over the milk round. They are very concerned that their decision may well cause hardship and hope that friends and neighbours will rally round and ensure that elderly housebound residents are taken care of. Over the last six years Malcolm and Mary have collected £1,953 for the NSPCC delivering their gift envelopes every October with their regular pintas. We shall miss them and the excellent dependable service they provided. They hope to continue to serve you with their taxi service called MC Private Hire, phone no (01531) 636736 or 07974 799097. We wish them every success in the future and thank them for the contribution they made to our village life.   more...

THE church bells rang out welcoming worshippers to the harvest festival service at St Margaret's Church, Corse. On the way to the church orchards with trees bearing heavy crops of apples could be seen and soon they will be ready to be made into cider for which they are grown. The harvest festival service was attended by parishioners from the four parishes of Hartpury, Corse, Staunton and Maisemore within the benefice. The church was decorated with seasonal flowers and fruit and vegetables and a sheaf of corn, a reminder of the farming community around. Canon John Evans welcomed the large congregation which included members of the 1st Staunton and Corse Cubs and Scouts and Beavers. Children had taken their harvest gifts to the altar, which were to be taken for the homeless in Gloucester. The celebration of Holy Communion was conducted by the Reverend Penny Hamer with Canon Evans and the well loved harvest hymns were accompanied by Holly Chapman, the organist. THE new History of Wellington Heath is due to be published at the end of November and the presentation of the draft by Peter Garnett and Allan Wood on Friday evening was very well attended. Peter spoke about the life and times of the village and Allan showed slides of houses and locations all of which are reproduced in the book. West Malvern CORRESPONDENT: Colin Jackson Tel: 01684 577604

Prospects remain good for the introduction of improved transport services, in particular an evening bus service, through West Malvern as a result of the planned joint bid by the parish council together with Ledbury, Colwall and Malvern Wells for Government funding in the form of a Parish Transport Grant. The parishes could also benefit under a Rural Bus Challenge bid to be submitted to the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions by Worcestershire County Council be later this month. The success or otherwise of that bid, made in competition with other local authorities, will not be known until early next year. The parishes therefore decided at a meeting this week to delay submitting their own bid until the content of the county bid is known, and then tailoring their own application to dovetail with it. If one or both bids are successful, there appears to be a real possibility of a regular evening shuttle service with several return trips linking the four parishes from about 6pm to midnight on two or three nights a week. However it is unlikely any service would be operative before spring.   more...
