VILLAGERS have been urged to back a battle to scupper a waste firm's bid to dump rubbish in a Hartlebury quarry.
Mark Massey, co-ordinator of HALT - Hartlebury Against Landfill Toxins - said objections to Biffa's bid to extend planning permission to fill the Whitlenge Lane quarry needed to be sent to Worcestershire County Council's head of legal services Simon Mallinson by Wednesday.
The group is using the application for a two-year extension to the permission to try to convince the council of its opposition to the scheme, citing predicted health problems.
HALT was formed last year to fight the case at a public meeting when Biffa appealed against an Environment Agency decision not to grant the firm a dumping licence. But the meeting was cancelled at the last minute pending talks between the company and the agency.
