The cost effective solution to railway

I was pleased to see Rev Dr Edward Morris's letter (10 Oct) highlighting the issue of access to the London bound platform at Evesham Station following the precipitous removal of the barrow crossing. He rightly asks what our elected representatives are doing to keep this issue on the boil and seek to find a solution to the problem. I raised the issue at a Evesham Public Forum conducted by Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire County Council. No one from either council felt it necessary to attend the meeting which was attended by Thames Trains and Railtrack to `explain' their actions. It is not explanations we really want it is a solution to the problem. Councils at all levels must have accessibility to public services high on their priorities. Our MEP Liz Lynne is the European Parliament Rapporteur for the Year of Disabled, has been in close contact with Disability Awareness in Schools (DAIS) who are leading the campaign.   more...

They certainly have not met the criteria set out in the council's guide which required a balance between employment, housing and amenities.   more...
