FORTHAMPTON & District Royal British Legion's annual general meeting was held on October 14 in Forthampton Clubroom. There were 12 members in attendance and eight apologies. The chairman K I B Yeaman welcomed the members who had braved the very wet and windy night. F Remmer branch president said the exortation and epitaph. The minutes of last year's AGM were read out. There were no matter arising. President's report: Since the last AGM members of the branch, Women's section and supporters went house to house selling poppies, the local organiser Betty Greenwood was pleased with the result. During the past year the branch has been represented at our own Remembrance Service at Chaceley and other services, re-dedication of Forthampton War Memorial, Tirley, Chaceley, Bushley, Festival of Remembrance, Cheltenham Town Hall, National Conference, Bridlington, County Conference, Fairford, Group meeting Tewkesbury, Newent, Staunton, Ashchurch and Forthampton. At our own branch meetings we had talks by J Horthonthwaite, national vice-chairman, Col T Merritt OBE (county field officer) and branch chairman K I B Yeaman. OUR Harvest Festival this year at St Peter's Church took the form of a service of songs of praise. Despite a very wet afternoon and evening there was a good congregation in attendance. The traditional harvest hymns were sung followed by readings, and there were also two musical interludes. The church was beautifully decorated with flowers, fruit and vegetables; there was also donations of many tinned and packet foods which were sent to the Salvation Army in Tewkesbury. The service was conducted by Rev Chris Moss and Edward Lane was the organist. After the service a harvest tea was held in the Village Hall.   more...
