Wednesday club: The new year has seen the already high standard of the club's programme being continued. The first of the January meetings took the form of a light-hearted but interesting series of quizzes entitled `Who, When, Where, Why and What'? At the second meeting members welcomed a return visit of Miss Jill Wilson who, on this occasion, showed slides and spoke on `The Malabar Coast' - a pleasant journey along this coast of Western India. For its third meeting of the month, Dr David Arthey returned to the club to show some most beautiful pictures of the `Canyons of North America'. During January members had an additional `treat' with a visit to the Stratford Memorial Theatre to see the RSC production of `The Secret Garden'. A musical based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The next club meeting will be held on February 14 when the speaker will be Mrs Carolyn Roberts on the subject of `Britain's Rivers'.   more...

VILLAGE VOICE: The newly formed Steering group meet on January 30, 7.30pm in the Conservative Club. Councillors P L A Coton and Mrs J Lampton attended. Both agreed to share liaison between the parish council and the steering group. Ms Rebecca Frost, appraisals officer, Stratford District Council also attended. To have full support of the people of Wellesbourne and to ensure that the final document will truly represent village opinion it was agreed that Village Voice was a more appropriate name for the project. The group also agreed that a logo for publicity purposes was desirable. Wellesbourne Junior School should be approached to stage a competition for a suitable logo the winning entry to be decided by the school. Coun P L A Coton said he would contact the school. The question of funding was discussed and a budget should be prepared immediately in order to secure maximum financial help from the district council. The parish council has also promised some funding. A photograph competition to show the best and worst of the village is being considered. There will be an open day on April 21 in the village hall inviting people to find out more about village projects and to discuss their opinions.   more...
